at the time of qualification and must be entered in the name and ownership they are registered.
Qualification to be awarded no lower than third place if the winning horse has already qualified.
At shows where there is no Ride Judge a stand/ individual show will be required. Riders will be
required to give a short individual show to walk, trot & canter or set show lasting approximately
2 minutes. Change of rein and lengthened strides in trot and canter must be shown. Rein back,
(optional) stand still and obedience to the leg. Horses should leave the ring at a walk or trot.
Entries will not be asked to jump. If there is both a Ride and Conformation Judge a marking
system will be used:
Ride/ Manners- Marks to be awarded out of a possible 50

When judging classes using the Marks System horses should be stripped for the conformation
Judge. Where there is an equality of marks, the ride marks take precedence, however if there
remains a tie then the Ride Judges decision is final. If an exhibitor declines the judges ride the
horse will not be placed.

EVNPA RULES
(Based on BSPS Rules)
General
1. Owners entering horses/ponies in any EVNPA event do so entirely at their own risk. It is a
condition of entry that no liability of any kind attaches itself to the EVNPA, its committee,
stewards, officials or landowners in any respect whatsoever.
2. The organisers have taken all reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of
everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable
precautions to avoid accidents and must obey instructions from officials and stewards.
3. Should you or your horse fall during any event, you must leave the ring on foot. If you choose
to compete in further classes that day, it is entirely at your own risk, and you (or your
parent/guardian) accept full responsibility for any resulting injury.
Safety Equipment
4. Riding Hats: Correctly secured Skull Caps or Riding Hats meeting one of the following BSPSapproved safety standards MUST be worn by all riders of all ages:
- PAS 015
- VG1
- (BS)EN1384 2023
- ASTM F1163 2015 or 2023
- SNELL E2016 or SNELL E2021
- AS/NZS 3838 2006 onwards
All hats must have a plain cover in black, navy blue, brown, grey or green. Velvet covers are
encouraged.
4a. Handlers of ponies in In-Hand classes aged 14 years and under must wear a correctly
secured Skull Cap/Riding Hat that meets the above standards.
4b. Riding hats must be worn at all times when mounted on the show field.
4c. Whips: A rider or handler may carry a whip for safety and guidance purposes only. Whips
must not exceed 75cm in length in any ridden class. Hunting crops are permitted.
The whip must only be used in the backhand position.
When lunging, a lunge whip may be used but must be for safety and guidance purposes only.
Excessive or inappropriate use of the whip will result in disqualification or disciplinary action.
4d. Phones & Earpieces: Mobile phones must not be carried in pockets while riding or handling
horses/ponies. Earpieces, headphones, or similar devices are not permitted during any class or
while mounted. Use of such items may lead to disqualification.
Other
5. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times and cleaned up after.
6. All competitors (including Lead Rein handlers) and anyone riding on the show field must be
fully paid-up members of the EVNPA and hold Third Party insurance.
7. Horses or ponies that may kick must wear a red ribbon in their tail.

9. Body Protectors: Body protectors are permitted in all classes and must be worn over jackets.
The use of body protectors is strongly advised in Working Hunter classes.
Showing Rules
10. In all Leading Rein classes, the rein must go directly from the bit to the rider’s hand, with no
attachments to the saddle. Reins must be of normal length and not stitched short. Handles on
saddles are permitted, but reins must not be attached to them.
10a. The lead rein must be attached to the noseband and remain there while the pony is in the
ring. Ponies must be led at all times by the leader.
10b. In Lead Rein classes, the leader must be 16 years old or over. No child under the age of 3
years may compete.
11. Handlers of stallions or colts must be 14 years old or over. Stallions are not permitted in
Lead Rein or First Ridden classes and must wear a stallion bridle marker.
12. Handlers of young stock must be 14 years old or over.
13. Objections or complaints must be made to the show secretary before the end of the show
and be accompanied by a £25 deposit. The deposit is returned if the complaint is upheld.
14. Do not drop litter or empty boxes/trailers onto the show field.
15. All ridden horses/ponies on the show ground must be over 4 years old. Age is calculated
from 1st January in the year of birth.
16. All horses and ponies must be shown in correct tack. Field head collars are not permitted in
the ring.
17. Ponies competing in Registered Mountain and Moorland classes must be registered in the
main body of their Breed Society Stud Books.
Conduct and Membership
18. Please respect committee members who volunteer their time to run the club. Aggressive
behaviour will not be tolerated. Show days can be long; please be patient, polite, and
considerate.
19. All ages are as at 1st January in the current year.

Suggestions and Feedback
21. We welcome suggestions for improvement. However, to ensure all ideas are considered
properly, any suggestions must be put in writing. This can be via email, a letter, or even a
message through Facebook Messenger. If it’s in writing, we’ll make sure it gets copied over and
brought to the committee for discussion.
