Young Handler Accumulator Competition
The Shire Horse Society will once again be running the SHS Young Handler’s Accumulator Award in 2025.Points relative to placings will be awarded to those young handlers who are 2025 members of the Shire Horse Society. The winner will be announced at the end of the year. Points will be awarded to the top five, with points awarded as follows: 1st-5 points, 2nd-4 points, 3rd- 3 points, 4th-2 points and 5th- 1 point. The Champion Young Handler with the most points at the end of the year will win the trophy. Those taking part in the above should be Junior members of the Society and are able to join mid-season if they are not already members. Points will only count once membership is taken up and points will not be back dated. Junior memberships are £12 per annum and are open to those that have not attained their 18th birthday.
The highest placed Young Handler of a Shire Horse will also qualify for the Shire Horse Young
Handler of the Year at Midland Foal Show and Sale in September 2026.

This is a Victoria Food Company Championship Qualifier. The Champion will qualify
for the Grand Final to be held on Sunday 14th September 2025 at the Bury Farm Equestrian
Club, New Bury Farm, Mill Road, Slapton, Bucks, LU7 9BT.
In the event that the Champion has already qualified then the Reserve Champion to qualify. If
the Reserve has also qualified, the rosette to be awarded back to the
Champion. Once qualified, the horse, whip and vehicle may not be changed.

Open to ALL heavy horses breeds - 4 years and over that are registered in the main British
stud books of the Shire, Clydesdale, Suffolk and Percheron and heavy foreign breeds
registered with their foreign breed societies. Not to have won more then 2 ridden classes as a
combination.
Horses must be entered in the name and ownership that they are registered in.
Riders of stallions must be 16 years or over

for the Grand Final to be held on the 12th&13th September 2026 at the Bury Farm Equestrian

Ridden Concours D'Elegance

Info:
First, second and third placed horses/ponies not already qualified in eligible classes will qualify
for the Champion of Britain Title classes to be held at Onley Equestrian Centre, Rugby,
Warwickshire on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th September 2026. If a horse/pony has already
qualified, cards may be handed down to 6th place at judge’s discretion.
Each qualified horse/pony will receive a qualification card in the ring which will enable the owner to enter
the Championship Show, provided the owner and rider/handler are, or become registered with the
Concours d’Elegance Society within 21 days of the qualifying show. No horse registration is required. For

This class is a qualifier for the Driven Heavy Horse of the Year Championship Supported by the
Shire Horse Society, to be held at the NEC Birmingham, 7th - 11th October 2026
This class will be run in accordance with the general rules as set out in the Horse of the Year
Show rulebook, a copy of which can be downloaded from www.hoys.co.uk.
As this is a Horse of the Year Show Qualifier, all data given upon entry of this class is provided
to Grandstand Media Limited and stored on the Grandstand Entries System. For full policy

horses/ponies when competing or travelling. Competitors are reminded that it is a DEFRA
requirement that the Official Identity Documents must be in the name of the legal owner within
30 days of ownership. This must be registered with the breed society, relevant studbook or ID
issuing agency, dependant on breed/type of animal. Spot checks may be carried out at
qualifying shows and by breed societies.

Judge-TBC. This class is a qualifier for the British Heavy Horse Society Eversley Championship
Open to purebred horses 4 years old and over that are certified British bred and registered in
the main British stud books of the Shire, Clydesdale, Suffolk and Percheron societies. Horses
must be entered in the name and ownership that they are
registered in.
Riders of stallions must be 16 years or over.

British Ridden Heavy Horse HOYS Qualifier

This competition is open to purebred mares, geldings and stallions 4 years old and over that are
registered in, and comply with showing requirements of the Shire, Clydesdale, Suffolk or British
Percheron Society Stud Books, at the time of qualification. Partbreds are not eligible to compete.
All Riders and Owners must be Members of either the Shire Horse Society, The Clydesdale Horse
Society, The Suffolk Horse Society or British Percheron Horse Society. These classes will be run
in accordance with the general rules as set out in this Rule book a copy of which can be
downloaded from www.hoys.co.uk.

For Clydesdale horses, they are to hold a Clydesdale Horse Society passport with full pedigree

Qualifiers should be marked in the following way:
Ride 50 maximum
Conformation 50 maximum
In the case of equality, the horse with the highest conformation mark will be deemed the winner.
If there still be equality at this point, then the judges’ decision will be final.
This class is a qualifying class for Horse of the Year Show, NEC, Birmingham, 7th -11th October
2026.
Qualification will not pass below 5th place. Qualification will be verified by the Horse of the
Year Show office

1. The Organizers reserve the right to cancel, add, or amend any of the competitions or vary the
timing of any event although this will generally be avoided whenever possible.
2. No claim can be made for anything that may happen to competitors, onlookers, their property,
servants or horses in connection with or arising out of events at this show. It shall be deemed a
condition of entry that each entrant shall agree to indemnify the promoters against any legal action
arising from such an accident.
3. The Organizers reserve the right to decline to accept any entry and may cancel the entry of any
competitors or exhibitors without stating any reason
4. All horses entered must have received a full course of Equine Influenza Vaccination as
recommended by the Equine Veterinary Association within the twelve months prior to the show. The
Organizers reserve the right to check passports.

5. Competitors and their servants must carry out any directions given to them by authorized officials
of the show and failure to do so may result in the competitor being excluded from taking any further
part in the events and forfeiting all entry fees.
6. When not competing horses and vehicles shall be kept strictly to the nominated areas and no
exercising or practicing shall be carried out except in the nominated areas.
7. Horses in the harness and ridden classes must be 4 years old and over.
8. The decision of the Judges shall be final in all events. Any protest must be lodged with the
Secretary's Office within 15 minutes of end of class and accompanied by £20, which will be forfeited
if the protest is not upheld. Protests will be heard by the Chairman, Secretary and Chief Steward.

9. Any dogs brought to the show must be kept on a lead.
10. All Cups and Trophies must not leave the Secretary's tent except for presentation and
photographs.
11. All horseboxes and other vehicles MUST be parked as directed by the Stewards on the day and
are parked on the showground entirely at their owner's risk.
12. All Exhibitors must hold valid public liability insurance and may be required to produce copies of
their insurance documents.
13. The Organizers reserve the right to change the Judge without prior notification.
The E.S.H.A is affiliated to the Shire Horse Society, the Suffolk Horse Society and the British Driving
Society.
The Show and Classes will be conducted according to the Rules laid down by the Breed Societies
and the Essex Shire Horse Association Health and Safety Policy. By entering you agree to be
bound by these Rules.
The Essex Shire Horse Association cannot be held liable for any delay, accident injury or any other
happening however it may be caused.
