Show Information

Classes 1 – 4 NSEA Grass Roots Rules apply
Horse/rider combinations may compete in two consecutive height qualifying classes on the same pony 40 & 50 or 50 & 60 or 60 & 70cm A GR rider may not jump in 70cm and 40cm A rider is not eligible for GR if they are jumping 90cm and may only jump 60 and 70 GR classes if horse/rider have completed 5 x 80cm classes.

Regional Points League Classes
Team Points- towards the regional points leagues, calculated at the end of the academic year, where the highest 4 schools will qualify for the NSEA Championships at Addington in October.
Individuals placed in the top 6 in the RPL 70, 80, 90 classes qualify to compete at the RPL Individual Championships at NSEA GR RPL Championships at Hickstead in August.

Including Grass Roots Qualifiers for the Grass Roots Regional Championships (see website for dates) as well as the NSEA Grass Roots Festival at Hickstead in August 2026 Regional Points League Classes Team Points- towards the regional points leagues, calculated at the end of the academic year, where the highest 4 schools will qualify for the NSEA Championships at Addington in October. This competition is open to schools from all counties and regions.

Terms & Conditions

NSEA Rules – For the comprehensive Grass Roots Rules go to NSEA General Rules 2025-26 on the NSEA website. Note- NSEA Rules- hair up please. See below for eligibility in the height classes: The purpose of the Grass Roots programme is to provide very novice riders with the opportunity to experience the excitement of competition. The rules are, therefore, kept as flexible as possible but, please embrace the “spirit” of the rules. Please do not use Grass Roots competitions as an easy opportunity to “pot hunt,” as it is not in the spirit of the competition. The top 6 teams & individuals at qualifiers will be eligible to compete at any Regional Grass Roots Championships. Riders who have competed in affiliated show jumping or eventing at 80cm or above , Pony Club regionals at 80, BSPS or Trailblazers at Championships level at 80cm or individually at NSEA National Championships in October at 80cm are not eligible for Grass Roots Classes Riders who qualify for the Grass Roots Championships and then subsequently jump themselves out of their qualification are able to upgrade their qualification to the NSEA RPL Individual Championships (70-90cm) which runs at Hickstead in August at the same time as the Grass Roots Championships) Forest Edge Rules and Regulations – PLEASE READ THESE PRIOR TO ENTERING 1. The Show Organisation referred to in these Rules and Regulations shall hereinafter mean Forest Edge Arena. The competitions in this schedule will hereinafter be referred to as the Show. 2.The Show, Show Organiser, Volunteer and Officials do not accept liability for any accident, damage, injury, theft or illness to horses, riders, owners, spectators or any other person or property whatsoever. 3.The Show Organiser retains as it absolute discretion the right to decline or exclude or remove any person or animal from the show or future shows or return any entry fee without being required to assign reason or being liable for any compensation. 4. Competitions – The Show Organiser reserves the right to cancel, add to, or amend any of the competitions, as they think fit. 5. By entering a class, you agree you are at a suitable and safe level of ability to compete in these competitions. 6. Smoking – Smoking is not permitted within any of the showground buildings or stables. 7. Collecting Ring - All warming up must be done in the designated collecting Rings provided. Persons found abusing horses on the showground may be asked to leave. 8. Refund of Entry will only be made before the closing date of the competition less a 20% handling fee. NO REFUNDS will be issued after the closing date under any circumstances. There will be a £5 admin charge for any amendments, corrections and changes to entries. 9. Cheques will not be accepted.10. Vehicles – The Show Organiser reserves the right to remove any vehicle which is obstructing any access to or from the ground even if locked and unattended. The Show Organiser will not be liable for any injury, loss or damage occasioned by such removal. 11. Dogs – Dogs are permitted in the Lorry Park and car park only. They must be kept under control at all times. If, in the opinion of the Show Organiser, any person fails to control their dog/s they may be asked to leave the show ground. 12. Prize Givings –There will be no prize giving’s, ONE member from your school may collect rosettes.13. Objections – Objections should be made in writing within 1hr of the incident taking place and be accompanied by a £50 deposit that will be returned if your objection is upheld. 14. Official Photographs – Any photographs taken at the show by the official photographer may be used by the Show Organiser for promotional purposes. Please indicate on your entry form if you do not wish to appear in photos used for promotional purposes. 15. First Aid – A total of £5 per competitor per day. 16. Vaccination Certificate – All horses at the show must have a current and valid certificate of vaccination against Equine Influenza. There will be random checking of certificates, and any horse found without a valid certificate will be asked to leave the show ground. 17. Stallions – No person shall allow a stallion for which he/she I responsible as owner, lessee, authorized agent or rider to compete or be prepared to compete, in any class without taking adequate precautions to ensure other persons are not put at risk of injury. 18. Close of Entries – Entries will close on the official closing date. Should space be available late entries may be accepted. Entry to the show constitutes your agreement that you, and those associated to you agree with, and are bound by the rules in this schedule. Your Responsibility All persons attending the event must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents and must obey instructions given by the Organiser or by officials and stewards on its behalf. All competitors and those associated with their school are the responsibility of the Team Manager whilst at the competition All enquiries are to be made by the Team Manager please. TV & Photography Please note that professional photographers will be present at NSEA competitions. There may also be TV cameras at the Championships. Please indicate on the entry form if you do not wish to appear in press coverage/ TV or photos taken by our official photographers Child Protection & Safeguarding If you have any concerns, please contact the NSEA on tel 07552 836032 / competition@nsea.co.uk to be put in contact with our designated Child Protection Officer. If you have immediate concerns, you can contact Childline tel 0800 1111 or NSPCC tel 0808 800 5000 General information Please ensure that you do not muck out your horsebox onto the Car Park. Take all litter home with you. All dogs must be kept on leads at all times. Any dog mess must be cleared up. Outside assistance will not be tolerated- and could result in elimination. NSEA affiliated competitors only may warm up & compete horses on the show ground All competitions, parents and representatives from every school must ensure that they act courteously to stewards and officials at all times. Most of them are volunteers and rudeness is not acceptable. In the event of cancellation, you entry will be refunded on receipt of a sae, less £5 per cheque admin fee.
