Dressage test - Walk and Trot (2025) This is an introductory level designed to give confidence to riders and horses/ponies. Walk and Trot are required in the dressage and EOH trials i.e. canter is not allowed. Rising or sitting trot. In the speed phase, canter is permitted but not compulsory. Horses to be 4 years and over. To be ridden with reins in two hands.

This level is for horses progressing towards advanced level. This is equivelant to BD Medium/Advanced Medium. There is an option for flying changes (higher mark) or simple changes. Horses must be five years or over. To be ridden with reins in two hands.

Working Equitation Training

This class is non-members of ABWE who want to have a go. Can be ridden at either Walk and Trot, Novice or Junior B or A. Please specify on the entry form. A £5 day ticket needs to be purchased from ABWE prior to competition. We have made a £5 deduction in the fee to encourage more people to enter as you need to pay for your day ticket.

Class 8
Working Equitation Leadrein

A fun class for children under 16 years. Ease of Handling phase only (no Dressage or Speed). As well as being led, assistance is also allowed with the obstacles, but this will be taken into account with the marks. Judged without placing with rosettes for completion and special for the highest percentage. Can be judged by persons other than qualified judges.

ENTRIES CLOSE  Sunday 17th August 2025 at Midnight.  Running orders will be processed and sent to all competitors by Friday evening 22nd August 2025

The competition will be on a surfaced arena and there is plenty of car parking space on Concrete.

There are toilets available.

Withdrawals/Refunds

Withdrawal up to the closing date will be refunded minus an administration charge.  All withdrawals have to be made either via my show secretary or email cwmfagor@me.com

 

Withdrawals after the closing date regretably will not be refunded so please check for the official closing date.  Late entries won't be refunded.  See below:

Should the event have to be postponed by the centre, all entries will automatically be transferred to the next appropriate competition.  If a refund is required a request must be made via email (cwmfagor@me.com) AND within 48hrs of the postponment. Should a refund be requested it will be minus an administration charge.  Please note refunds can take up to 10 working days, depending on your bank/CC provider, as advised in the MRL T&C's on booking entries.

Terms and Conditions of Competition Entry.

Equestrian Events
Horse riding is a dangerous sport and you participate at your own risk and without any reliance on Coleg Gwent, its owners, servants or agents for safety of yourself or your property. Due care has been taken to maintain the facilities in a safe condition, but riders must observe the following terms and conditions and any additional instructions that may be given.
An internal first aider will be present for the duration of the event.

Health and Safety
Coleg Gwent has taken every reasonable precaution to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective everyone must take reasonable precautions to avoid accidents occurring and obey the instructions of the organisers and all Coleg Gwent staff at all times.

We strongly advise that you take out your own personal insurance for both yourself and your horse.

Terms & Conditions for Events
1. The organisers reserve the right to cancel or amend competitions or classes in any way. The organisers reserve the right to refuse entries without assigning a reason.

2. Unaffiliated competitions will be run in accordance with the Rule Book of the relevant discipline and any amendments noted on individual schedules.

3. All riders under the age of 18 years of age must have parental consent. 4. A responsible adult must accompany all riders under the age of 18.

5. All unaccompanied competitors must provide the Show Organiser with a contact telephone number in case of an emergency.

6. The facilities must be used in a sensible manner compatible with the level of experience of the rider(s) and horse or pony. All riders must be competent in the level they are entering.

7. Riders take part at their own risk.

8. A ‘Riding Hat’ designed to provide protection, must be worn at all times by anyone whether or not a participant or competitor, riding anywhere on the Coleg Gwent site. Hats must reach at least one of the following standards: AII PAS 015: 1998, BS EN1384: 1997 – Provided that they are BSI Kite marked or SEI. Snell E2001 plus Snell Label with chin strap fastened as so to prevent the movement.

9. Body protectors – a British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) approved and appropriately labelled Level 3 body protector, manufactured in the year 2000 or after, is mandatory for cross country and whenever else a body protector is required to be worn.  Body protectors are ACCEPTABLE for Working Equitation.

10. Full length riding boots or jodhpur boots are compulsory. Other forms of footwear are not permitted.

11. All rubbish must be disposed of in the bins provided. Lorries/ trailers are not to be skipped out onto the car park. Please use the skips provided.

12. Coleg Gwent operates a No Smoking policy. Please only smoke within the designated smoking area.

13. All equipment breakages must be reported to Coleg Gwent Equestrian Centre staff and paid for.

14. Dogs are welcome onsite but must be kept on a lead at all times. Waste is to be disposed of in the bins provided.

15. Coleg Gwent does not accept responsibility for theft/damage to third party property. Storage facilities cannot be provided. When persons are permitted to leave equipment on the premises, they do so entirely at their own risk.

16. No horses/ponies to be tied to outside vehicles and left unattended.

17. All visiting horses must be vaccinated against equine flu and passports made available for routine inspections. Coleg Gwent accepts annual boosters within 12-months but not less that 7-days before visiting us onsite.

18. Rules on stallions as per each discipline’s respective Member’s Handbook.

19. Under no circumstances are horses to be lunged or loose schooled in the arenas.

20. No hay/haylage/animal or human feed stuff to be taken into the arenas.

21. No unauthorised persons shall enter the competition or collecting rings.

22. All accidents must be reported and an accident report completed with a Coleg Gwent staff member.

23. In all competitions the Judge’s decision shall be final. All competitors and other visitors to Coleg Gwent must adhere to all instructions provided by stewards.

24. There may be photography or filming going on at our competitions and it is your responsibility to let us know if you do not want to be photographed or filmed whilst at our event.

25. Litter is to be taken home or disposed of in appropriate recycling bins as dictated by the Welsh Government. Failure to put rubbish in the CORRECT bin will mean that the bin is NOT collected by the refuse collectors.  SO PLEASE dispose of your litter RESPONSIBLY!!!

26. Strict poo-picking is required in all arenas, walkways, and parking areas.  All droppings to be immediately removed and placed in muck bins provided.  No mucking out onto lorry park and no hay/haylage to be left in the lorry park.


We have taken all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of horse and rider to be effective, you must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring. Coleg Gwent and/or the Organisers of the event reserve the right to remove someone from the facilities in the event of dangerous riding, abuse of the horse, or failure to act on common courtesy. Neither Coleg Gwent nor any person acting on behalf of the College accept any liability for any loss, damage, accident, injury or illness to horse, riders, spectators or any other persons or property whatsoever.

I the undersigned, hereby agree to the condition of use and discharge any legal liability against Coleg Gwent for any personal injury sustained or damage arising from the use of the Equestrian Centre at the Usk Campus or any claims or any liabilities whatsoever, known or unknown now existing or which may arise in the future, on account of or in any way related to or arising from the use of the Equestrian Centre.
