Course hire includes use of the brand-new Jump 4 Joy course, complete with all fillers.
The course will be set at 80cm and must be returned to this height after your session.
Please do not move any fences or alter distances.
All droppings must be removed, and any damage must be reported immediately.
Payment Details & Event Fees
You can book using our Secure Online Entry System. Payment is secure and it goes directly to A.R.U Writtle. You will receive an email confirmation of your booking and payment.
Cost: £30 per hour (up to 2 horses)
Additional horse: £15 per horse
This document outlines the rates, terms, and conditions applicable to all venue hire and camp bookings at ARU Writtle. The information provided below is effective from 01 August 2025 and supersedes any previous versions or communications relating to venue hire pricing and operational guidelines.
All clients, hirers, and visitors are required to familiarise themselves with the details contained in this document. By making a booking or using the facilities at ARU Writtle, you agree to adhere to all specified requirements concerning health and safety, legal liability, equine welfare and vaccination, bio-security, cancellation, and payment terms.

By proceeding with a venue hire booking, you acknowledge your understanding of and agreement to abide by these terms.
Venue Hire Rates
1. Private Arena Hire: £28 per hour (based on up to 2 horses. Additional horses charged at £12 per hour per horse)
2. Clinic Arena Hire: £28 per hour – minimum 4-hour booking required to secure.
3. Mechanical Horse Hire: £23 per hour
4. Venue Hire (Sole Use): £450 per day
5. Venue Hire with Use of College Horses: £400 per day (rate based on 4 days or more)
All venue hire rate includes lighting, full use of jumps and dressage boards.
Camp Hire Rates
1. Venue Hire (Sole Use): £375 per day (rate based on 2 days or more)
2. Stabling: £25 per stable (per day)
3. Hay: £50 per Heston bale
4. Straw: £30 per Heston bale
5. Shavings: £8.50 + VAT per bale
Show Jumping Course Hire
1. Show Jumping Course Hire: £30 per hour (up to 2 horses).
2. Additional Horse: £15 per horse.
3. All Show Jumping Course Hire bookings must be made through My Riding Life.
Cancellation
1. Advanced clinic bookings require a minimum 4-hour charge.
2. Cancellations within 7 days of clinic bookings will incur a 4-hour charge.
3. Clinic times must be confirmed at least 48-hours in advance.
4. Individual hire bookings require a minimum 48-hour cancelation notice – any booking cancelled with 48-hours will be charged at the full hire rate.
5. Should ARU Writtle cancel any venue hire a full refund will be provided.
6. Bookings made through My Riding Life are non-refundable unless the cancellation is initiated by ARU Writtle.
Terms & Conditions
Health, Safety & Legal
1. All visitors are responsible for their own health and safety while on site. ARU Writtle does not accept liability for any accidents, injury, illness, loss, or damage to persons, horses, vehicles, property, or companion animals, regardless of cause.
2. ARU Writtle rules apply to all events held on the premises, except where the venue has been externally hired, and alternative arrangements have been formally agreed in writing.
3. All visitors must comply with current health and safety regulations as well as any site-specific policies or instructions provided by ARU Writtle staff. This includes reporting any hazards or incidents immediately to a responsible person on site.
4. Safety equipment relevant to the activity being undertaken (such as helmets, protective clothing, or safety boots) must be always worn as required. A fitted, up to standard riding hat must be worn and securely fastened at all times while mounted. Failure to do so may result in removal from the premises.
5. Access is limited to the areas of the venue included in the hire agreement. Use of any additional chargeable facilities is not permitted unless prior approval has been obtained from ARU Writtle staff.
6. Entry to ARU Writtle stabling and turnout areas is strictly prohibited.
7. Children under the age of 16 must be always supervised by a responsible adult while on ARU Writtle property.
8. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas. The consumption of alcohol and use of illegal substances is strictly prohibited on the premises.
9. Emergency procedures, including fire evacuation routes and assembly points, are clearly displayed throughout the venue. All attendees must familiarise themselves with these procedures upon arrival and follow all instructions in the event of an emergency.
10. Any problems or damages must be reported to ARU Writtle staff immediately.
Health & Safety Guidelines
1. Clients must have personal and public liability insurance; horse insurance is recommended but remains the owner’s responsibility.
2. Riders and horses must be appropriately skilled and always under control. Instructors must be suitably qualified and insured.
3. Children require close supervision. Riders under 18 must always be supervised by a responsible adult.
4. Hirers are responsible for any accompanying spectators.
5. Any problems or damages must be reported to ARU Writtle staff immediately.
Legal Liability
1. ARU Writtle accepts no responsibility or liability for any injury, loss, or damage of any kind, however caused, including where alleged negligence may be involved. All individuals using the venue do so entirely at their own risk.
2. All paid instructors engaged at ARU Writtle are required to provide current evidence of their relevant qualifications and valid insurance cover prior to delivering any instruction or services on site.
Payments
1. All venue hire invoices are to be paid to Anglia Ruskin University within 30 days of receipt.
2. Failure to settle an invoice within 30 days will result in a 10% late payment charge being added to the outstanding amount.
Vaccinations
1. Equine influenza vaccinations must fully comply with ARU Writtle policy prior to attendance.
2. Horses are required to be vaccinated to Jockey Club standards before allowing them entrance to the venue.
Second injection must have been administered 4-6 weeks following first injection (Jockey Club requirements are 21-92 days later)
Third injection after six months (Jockey Club requirements are 150-215 days later)
Thereafter yearly boosters (Jockey Club requirements <365 days)
3. Horses displaying illness or symptoms (including fever, abnormal vital signs, lethargy, or discharge) must not be brought to the venue.
Bio-security
1. Avoid contact between your horse and other horses on site, particularly resident horse population, to minimize the risk of disease transmission.
2. Only use your own equipment. If shared equipment is necessary, ensure it has been thoroughly disinfected between uses.
3. Please bring your own water buckets for your horse and take care not to contaminate shared hoses or communal water sources.
4. Grazing is not permitted anywhere onsite. This applies to all horses attending events, clinics, or training sessions.
5. ARU Writtle is committed to providing a safe and clean environment for all clients. Clients are required to maintain this standard by removing any droppings, hay, and bedding from arena surfaces, car parks, stables, and all general venue areas. Failure to comply may result in a charge and cancellation of any future venue hire bookings.
By following these guidelines, you help protect the health and welfare of all horses and maintain a safe environment at ARU Writtle.

Client Agreement Summary
By signing below, I confirm that I have read, understood, and agree to abide by the ARU Writtle Venue Hire Terms and Conditions as outlined in the “Summary of Rates and Key Terms” effective from 01 August 2025. I acknowledge and accept full responsibility for my own safety, the safety of any individuals and animals in my party, and for complying with all ARU Writtle policies while on site.
I further confirm and agree to the following:
1. I am responsible for ensuring that all members of my group, including any spectators, understand and comply with the published rules and health & safety requirements of ARU Writtle.
2. I accept that ARU Writtle does not accept any liability for accidents, injury, illness, loss or damage to persons, horses, vehicles, belongings, property, or animals, however caused, as detailed in the Terms and Conditions.
3. I have adequate and appropriate personal and public liability insurance in place, and I acknowledge that horse insurance is my sole responsibility.
4. I understand and will enforce the rules regarding cancellation, biosecurity, vaccination policies, and venue use as specified in the agreement.
5. I am responsible for promptly reporting any incidents, problems, or damages to the ARU Writtle team during my hire.
6. I accept that failure to comply with these conditions may lead to withdrawal of hiring privileges and/or immediate termination of facility use without refund.
7. I agree that all venue hire invoices issued by Anglia Ruskin University are to be paid in full within 30 days of receipt.
By signing this agreement, I confirm my commitment to maintaining the standards and requirements set out by ARU Writtle, ensuring a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all.
