The competition is for those riders who would like to have a go at Horse Trials, but for whom our Horse Trials event at Larkhill is a jump too far. The cross-country section is in a schooling field of fences, which start at 40cm. The Have-A-Go-At-Horse-Trials is aimed at riders and/or horses who: - have never ridden over a full cross-country course - aren't fit enough for a full course, or are coming back from injury and seeking a low level opportunity to assess progress - want to stretch themselves and their horse by trying all three disciplines in one day Please Note - the dressage tests are Class 6 BD Intro 2 2024, Class 7 BD Prelim 2 2024, Class 8 BD Prelim 3 2024 Before entering this event please ensure you have read the 'SHOW INFORMATION' & 'TERMS & CONDITIONS' There will be no late entries accepted after midnight Tuesday 8th July Times will be available on www.bvrc.co.uk/events/competitions from 6pm on Friday 11th July. The courses will be available for walking from 2pm Saturday 12th July and on Sunday 13th July. Important Note - We are also running Dressage and Show Jumping on the same day at the same venue. If you are entering the Have-a-go-at-Horse-Trials you may enter one extra dressage test, which must be a different one from your HaGaHT test, unless you wish to repeat it and go HC. You are NOT ALLOWED to enter separate Show Jumping. Riders must be 12 years or older at 1st January 2025. Please note classes for Dressage, Show-Jumping and Have-a-Go-at-Horse-Trials may not run in order and classes may close early if they are full.

Every effort will be made to minimise waiting times between classes, but this is dependant on the number of entries in each class. Please remember that the event organisers and their teams are volunteers who give up their time for your benefit. Do not leave horses or ponies tied to lorries/trailers and left unattended. We are privileged to have the use of this site. Please clear up all droppings & DO NOT feed hay outside of your lorry/trailer.

ENTRY FEE covers all costs including Medical cover. You can book using our Secure Online Entry System. Payment is secure and it goes directly to Bourne Valley Riding Club. You will receive an email confirmation of your booking and payment.
Rosettes to 6th place & best BVRC member in each class. If you wish your dressage sheet and/or rosette to be posted to you after the event please supply a SAE with postage to the Secretary.

Health & Safety Policy The organiser of this event has taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health & safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents and shall obey the instructions of the organiser, and all officials & stewards.
Competition Notes: For the avoidance of doubt, competitors shall understand that the rules and conditions of entry (listed below) are the sole terms under which the Bourne Valley Riding Club (BVRC) organises competitions. Competitors shall not enter BVRC events unless they have read, understood and fully accepted these terms. BVRC General Rules & Conditions of Entry - All classes will be run in accordance with current Official Rules for British Riding Clubs' Competitions. It is the responsibility of competitors to familiarise themselves with these rules.
- It shall be deemed a condition of entry that neither the organisers nor land owners nor their agents shall be held responsible for any loss, injury, damage to competitors, onlookers, their property, servants or horses or ponies, howsoever caused.
- Competitors shall be 12 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER at 1st January 2025.
- Anyone who is competing, exercising, handling or responsible for a horse and is not a British Riding Clubs (BRC) member must have their own, third party, insurance.
- Horses and ponies shall be 5 years of age or older at the closing date for entry.
- Horses may only be ridden once. RIDERS MAY ENTER A MAXIMUM OF TWO HORSES PER CLASS.
- Everyone mounted, whether or not a competitor, shall wear correct riding clothes, in accordance with BRC Rules. This must include ‘Protective Headwear’, with a harness properly adjusted and fastened. Failure to do so will incur elimination.
‘Protective Headwear’ constitutes a hat meeting one of the following standards: British PAS 015: (2011) or VG1 01.040: (2014-12) } Provided they are BSI Kitemarked European EN1384: (2023) } or Inspec IC marked American ASTM F1163: (2015 onwards) Provided they are marked SEI or SNELL E2016 or 2021 onwards) Provided they have official SNELL label and number. Australian & New Zealand AS/NZS 3838 (2006 onwards) Provided they are SAI global marked Skullcaps must be worn with an appropriate coloured silk. Cross Country: Hats must be Jockey Scull to above standard and MUST NOT have a PEAK of more than 5mm. - Dressage: Gloves are compulsory.
Show Jumping: Body protectors are strongly recommended. Cross Country: A Body Protector to BETA Level 3 (Blue label dated 2018 or after) is compulsory. An Airbag style protector, if used, must be worn over a permitted body protector. Riders wearing Exo Body Cage protectors must inform the organiser before commencing the cross country. MEDICAL ARMBANDS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED AND IF USED MUST BE WORN ON THE RIDER’S ARM. - Hair must be neatly secured and MUST not hang lower than the shoulder line when standing normally.
Jewellery including body piercing components and therapeutic medical devices (wristbands) should covered up by clothing or gloves and this will be done at the rider’s own risk. - Whips of any length are permitted in Dressage and must not disturb other riders. Whips between 45cm and 75cm are permitted in show-jumping and cross-country.
- A watch is permitted for the cross country phase.
No other receiving, recording, transmitting or monitoring devices may be used during any phase of any event. Competitors are NOT permitted to take mobile phones onto the cross country course when competing. Head Cams will not be permitted on any part of the horse or rider at any time. - Competitors must report to the steward 15 minutes before their given start time for each phase.
Failure to do so may incur elimination. - A rider falling during any phase of the competition they will be eliminated.
Fallers, anywhere on site, must see a paramedic before remounting to start the competition/phase or before leaving the site. - In the event of elimination on the Cross Country, for reasons other than a fall of the horse or fall of the rider, competitors may proceed on the course but shall not obstruct other competitors.
- A competitor may not, under penalty of elimination, compete on a horse that has practised over any of the obstacles to be used on the course for the five days prior to the competition.
- Refund of entry fees, less the booking fee and a small admin charge to cover non-recoverable costs, will be made up to 28 days after the event, in the following circumstances:
prior to closing date / after the closing date on production of doctor’s or vet’s certificate / cancellation of event. Transfer of entries may only be requested prior to closing date. - DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON A SHORT LEAD AT ALL TIMES including walking the cross country course.
- The organisers reserve the right in the light of prevailing circumstances to cancel the event, alter classes, Judges, times, prize money or any other published information.
- In all cases the Judge's decision is final. Any objection shall be accompanied by a deposit of £20 and within half an hour of the incident. The deposit will be returned only if the objection is upheld.
- In the event of any dispute, which cannot be satisfactorily resolved, the BVRC may, at its option, agree to a full or partial refund of the competitor’s entry fees. For the avoidance of doubt claims for consequential liability, expenses or other payments shall in no circumstances be accepted.
- Medical facilities may be limited to standard NHS accident & emergency callout.
- Any veterinary services utilised (including horse transportation, accommodation or legal disposal of deceased animals) shall be charged to and paid by the competitor. The BVRC does not guarantee that there will be immediate access to a veterinary services or a horse ambulance on the showground, unless otherwise stated.
- BVRC does not guarantee that the showground is a secure site or that the showground perimeter cannot be breached by runaway animals. It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure, so far as is possible, that runaways cannot occur.
- The BVRC’s responsibility for runaway animals shall be limited to informing the local civil or military police. All costs incurred in any recovery including the cost of any damages incurred during the incident shall be charged to & paid by the competitor.
