UNMOUNTED MAP READING for TREC wih Liz Beddows

ü What to expect at a summer TREC competition

ü Practise your map reading on foot in a small group

ü Find out about speeds, tickets & checkpoints

ü Learn to recognise and use OS map symbols

ü Use a compass to check your route

ü Estimate distance

ü Hints and tips from 16 years of competing in TREC

 

This training is particularly aimed at newcomers and people competing at Level 1 TREC competitions. While it’s focus is on TREC competitions it would also be useful for people who would like to learn map reading skills.

 

 

Cost £29 per person (members)/£34 (non-members)

 

(includes tea/coffee/biscuits/cake, a map marking pen, speed card and handouts)

 

Please bring a good quality navigational compass with base plate (eg: Silva Classic/Ranger) with you if you have/can borrow one. Cheap ones are unreliable! Also bring a packed lunch, suitable footwear & coats for walking & slippers for indoors, if you like.

 Liz has been competing successfully in TREC for 15 years and is a TREC GB judge & Technical Delegate. She won the National Championship Level 2A in 2018 and the Welsh Championships in 2019 & 2021 on Rose. 

 

Liz has a calm & relaxed style of coaching and enjoys introducing new people to TREC.

Terms & Conditions

 All horses must be vaccinated annually in accordance with BRC rules prior to January 2020 and that no injection to be within 6 days prior to the event, horses can compete if they have the first two injections as long as no injection was given in the 6 days prior to the event. Spot checks may be made, and the rules may change if circumstances change. • For all test requirements please see the British Riding Clubs website at www.bhs.org.uk or British Dressage at www.britishdressage.co.uk • British Riding Club Rules 2020 will apply • Any protest against a decision of the judges should be made in accordance with riding club rule G14 of 2018 rule book. • Hard hat with fixed straps (Riding Club Rules 2020) to be worn at all times when mounted. • No horse under the age of four may compete in Dressage and Ridden Showing classes. • STALLIONS and COLTS must be shown in a suitable bit and bridle with a STALLION DISC. Stallions and colts must not be led by juniors under the age of 18. • No horses allowed who are not competing • It shall be deemed a condition of entry that the organisers and landowner and their agents shall not be held responsible for any loss, injury or damage to competitors, spectators, their property, servants or horses & ponies, howsoever caused on the showground • Medical facilities will be limited to standard NHS accident and emergency call out • Please take all rubbish home with you and pick up droppings and hay from the car park • The organisers reserve the right to retain a proportion of the entry fee for administration purposes in the event of cancellation of the competition. • All Competitors and/or owners must have their own insurance which includes suitable public liability. • The organisers of this event have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers Officials and Stewards. • Entry fees will not be returned unless a vet or doctors’ certificate is provided.
