HUNTER TRAIL INFORMATION
HOW THE CLASSES WILL BE JUDGED:
There will be approximately 20 fences which will be a mix of xc/arena event type jumps and show jumps.
The xc/arena event type jumps will be jumped first and will include a slip rail (see rules below). Competitors will them continue straight onto the show jumps which will be judged on style for classes 1&2 and time for classes 3-6.
Penalties will be incurred as per cross country rules. This means competitors can have 3 refusals at one fence before being eliminated. If eliminated, we will encourage the competitor to continue as long as it is safe.
SLIP RAIL:
Competitors must dismount, put the reins over the pony/horses’ head and cross stirrup irons. Penalty for failing to do so 10 penalties (There is no need to take the reins over pony/horses’ head if you wear a martingale).
Competitors must then open rail and put one end ON THE FLOOR. Lead pony/horse through the gap, close rail and re-mount. (A mounting block will be available with no penalties incurred if used.) This is timed from when the rider’s feet touch the ground to when the rider is sitting back in the saddle on re-mounting. The time allowed is 60 seconds, after which 20 penalties are incurred. After 60 seconds have lapsed, riders may have assistance to re-mount without penalty. Minimus (born in or after 2011) only may have assistance re-mounting at any time, without penalty whichever class they are in.
METHOD OF JUDGING:
Results will be based on the least penalties in the fastest time over the showjumps. We are not encouraging the children to gallop over the arena event type fences. If there is equality of places, the competitor who is fastest through the slip rail will be placed higher.
