Simon Battram started riding as a Child in the New Forest, Hampshire. Since those days, he has spent time training in the UK and Germany. His training, either ridden or through teaching aims to take what nature has given the horse, and through a systemic and gymnastic training programme based on balance, straightness and progressive development of both the mental and physical aspects, he enhances the way of going in turn prolonging the working life of the horse. Simon's ethos develops the horse to go as much for himself as for the rider, not to shut down his thought process but to open it up. Through his teaching methods, he encourages riders to assess more of what is going on, not to simply barrage the horse with aids in the hope that some may work. When the rider understands the cause and effect of their position, their aids and their riding attitude, they bring to the arena a whole new dimension and with this, the quality of the work they can produce really does leap forward. Simon specialises in the art of working horses in hand, using his skill to help horses at all levels and ages, whether just starting out on their Dressage career or working with horses competing at higher levels. He also works with horses that have behavioural problems relating to trauma through bad handling and misunderstandings, helping both horse and rider build a greater understanding of each other and build a better communication between them. Individual lessons of 45 minutes will take place within the indoor arena at Suffolk Rural (Otley College).
